My work is about memory; we save mementos of events in an attempt to document something deep and personal with a tangible thing that serves as a reminder, lest we forget. My mother struggled with cancer the final three years of her life. During that time she would sit in her favorite chair and tape mementos on her wall. These items were news paper articles, cards, pictures of flowers and ephemera noting important days for her children and grandchildren. When she could no longer walk, she would hand anyone close an item and instruct them where to place it. Helen, (my mother) was able to hold fast memories that were quickly fading. When she passed all of her walls had turned into wall-scapes, covered with ephemera. What I saw transformed my art practice. I've been experimenting with this medium for several years, creating abstract impressions created from books and ephemera. I work with color, texture and movement with an emphasis on narrative with a result of image/word poems.

I am excited to announce my new series. I observe strangers in public. My paintings from these observations incorporate pages from books, and pattern, increasing the mystery of my thoughts on the narrative.
